Talbert Medical Group Frequently Asked Questions

If you can not find answers to your question in the list below, please contact our Customer Service Department at (866) 582-5237 (5TALBERT).

Why would I choose Talbert Medical Group as my primary medical group?
Most Talbert Medical Group centers are one-stop shops, which means primary care, lab, and radiology are all under one roof. Talbert Medical Group is affiliated with respected hospitals and has an expansive network of specialists.

Talbert Medical Group has a fully integrated electronic medical record (EMR) system for our doctors, medical staff, contracted specialists, hospitals, and even our patients. Click here for more information about TMG4ME.

If your medical condition ever prohibits you from visiting your doctor’s office, our doctors will come to you. Whether it’s in an extended care facility or a skilled nursing facility, our medical staff will visit once a week to ensure you are getting the care you need. Click here to learn more about the Extended Care Program.

How do I choose a Talbert doctor?
First, assess your and your family’s medical needs. Do you need a doctor with a certain specialty training or experience? Do you need a doctor who can speak your language? Review the bios of all the Talbert Medical Group doctors and choose the one that best fits your needs. You may also call Talbert Marketing at (800) 610-5784 to ask for a printed Provider Directory and recommendations. Be sure to notify your health insurance plan of your choice.

How do I make an appointment?
Call any of the ten Talbert Medical Group health centers directly to make an appointment with the doctor who practices at that location. Click here for a complete list of Talbert health centers.

Can I change doctors?
Yes! Talbert Medical Group has over 100 doctors from which you can choose. You may change your Primary Care Physician (PCP) at any time. Simply call the Talbert Medical Group health center and make an appointment with a new doctor. Be sure to notify your health insurance plan of your change.

If you are changing doctors from, or to, a Talbert IPA (Independent Physician Association), the change must take place by the 15th of the month in order to become effective the 1st of the following month.

How many Talbert Medical Group health centers are there and where are they located?
We have a total of 10 health centers, 5 in LA County and 5 in Orange County. Please click here for a complete list of Talbert health centers.

Can I still keep my Talbert Medical Group doctor if my health coverage changes?
Talbert contracts with a wide range of health insurance plans and accepts a variety of payment options, which means even if your health coverage changes, it’s very likely that you can still keep your Talbert doctor.

If you are enrolled in an HMO, or PPO/EPO plan, contact your health plan to ensure that Talbert Medical Group is included in your plan’s network.

If you find that Talbert Medical Group is no longer available through your new insurance coverage, please contact your doctor’s office to discuss how you can continue to receive care from your doctor.

What is the difference between an insurance health plan and Talbert Medical Group?
Health insurance plans provide their members with health coverage. You buy your health insurance from them based on your benefit needs. Health insurance plans contract with medical groups, such as Talbert Medical Group, hospitals, and other medical providers to provide medical care to their members – you, our patients. Talbert Medical Group is not an insurance plan. We are doctors that take care of your health care needs.

The best comparison is with auto insurance. You buy auto insurance from an insurance firm but you go to a mechanic or body shop to get your car fixed. What makes it confusing in the health care world is that there are insurance plans that also provide medical care and medical groups that also offer benefits. However, at Talbert Medical Group, we only provide medical care.

What insurance plans does Talbert Medical Group accept?

How can I see a specialist?
If you are a managed care patient, your PCP will refer you to the appropriate specialists.

If you are a PPO/EPO or FFS (Fee For Service) patient, you can make an appointment directly with a specialist.

What should I do if I have an urgent medical need?
If you experience a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. Notify your health insurance plan and call your doctor’s office as soon as you are able.

If you have an urgent medical need during regular office hours, call your Talbert Medical Group doctor’s office. Our "Open Access" policy will allow our patients to be seen on the same day if needed.

If you have an urgent medical need after office hours, visit one of Talbert Medical Group’s 4 Walk-In centers. Click here for the locations and hours of operations.

Benefits of visiting Talbert Medical Group Walk-In Centers: lower cost, less wait time, automatic notification sent to your PCP.
